You will need to change money when you get to Kiev airport. There are cash machines at the airport and all over the Ukraine where you can get local currency by using your credit card. You must have travel insurance before travelling to Kiev. You will need to have insurance to get any medical treatment. Without insurance you will probably not be given medical help if required.
