Every August Edinburgh, the capital city of Scotland, holds its annual festival of arts and music. Attracting performers and artists from around the world it has gained a reputation as one of the leading and most popular of its kind.
The Military Tatoo, which takes place in front of Edinburgh Castle, is now a regular feature of the festival where massed bands perform each evening as the sun goes down.
Just as famous as the mainstream performances are those which were originally peripheral to the main events but are now (possibly) a festival in their own right - the Edinburgh "fringe". This part of the festival attracts the "avant garde", street performers, and a host of night club acts, which give the whole event a variety unparalleled in the English speaking world.
An experience not to be missed.
