Visas

If you are a non-EU citizen and wish to travel in European Union countries you will need a Schengen visa. The Schengen agreement of 1995 basically created a unified visa area which makes it easier to travel through the participating countries.
 
At this time there are 15 countries in the Schengen visa area and by Christmas there will be nine more. Switzerland will join in 2008. The United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland are NOT participating in this agreement.

You can apply for a Schengen visa either directly at an embassy, or in some case have an agent apply for you.
 
In general terms you may be asked to provide the following in support of your application.

1. A valid passport - Must have at least 3 months validity after departure form the Schengen Country.

2. Application Form - Fully completed and signed.

3. A passport sized photo.

4. Evidence of sufficient funds to cover the cost of your intended stay. An original recent bank statement, credit card with limit statement or travellers cheques. The minimum amount is £30.00 per person per day.

5. A letter from European Encounters Ltd, confirming your booking. (These are issued once payment has been received).

6. A recent and original letter from your employer.

7. Proof of insurance may be requested. (It is compulsory to have travel insurance when travelling within the EU. Please see our insurance information page.)

8. If you are a student, you will require a letter from your school/college to confirm attendance and stating the length of the course.

9. Return air tickets to your country of origin if you are travelling on a Tourist Visa.

If the individual requiring a visa is under 18, they must obtain a letter from their parents giving them permission to travel, AND a copy of their parents’ passports.

Please note: To obtain a Schengen Visa you MUST be in the UK for at least 15 days before you can apply for a visa.
